Marble is an expensive, but durable and sustainable building material. It is one of the best natural stone options for elegant interior and exterior design. To have it serve you best, you should pay attention to some special care and maintenance that marble requires. We are happy to share some tips on the installation of this luxurious natural stone.

Regardless of whether you are doing the installation by yourself or hiring professionals, you should pay attention to these several suggestions to prolong the life of your marble floor tiles, marble kitchen and bathroom countertops, marble slab walls and other marble stones in your house.

Installing marble tiles is similar to that of other natural stones:

• The best base for marble and ceramic tiles is a cemеnt board underlaymеnt installеd over a sturdy plywood subfloor.
• For “glueing” the tiles down use a mortar-based product — thin-set adhesive. It is the standard for natural stone and ceramic tiles.
• Use a fine mortar products to grout the joints between tiles.  Both with or without sand additives work.
• Most of the installation tools for ceramic porcelain tile work just as fine for marble.

However, there are also some crucial differences, based on the unique properties of marble tiles, that you need to take into account while having marble installed for your project:

• Do not lay the tiles over the top of the old floor. It works for some kinds of thinner building materials, but is usually pretty impractical for thick marble tiles.
• Since marble stone flooring tiles are relatively heavy, make sure that the subfloor is sturdy.
• The installer can only use a motorized wet saw. For the holes in marble natural stone tiles use special hole saws with diamond blades.

Marble, as many natural stones, has a porous surface. To preserve its beauty for longer, it’s vital to refinish marble flooring once every 6-12 months, using a quality stone sealer for marble.
