When it comes to choosing the right natural stone for your construction or design project, it is sometimes really hard to pick one. It is much easier to reach your goals, though, if you know the specific features of different types of natural stone.
What if we told you that marble and limestone are the same stone? Well, almost. If this statement confused you and you want to find out more, stay with us and we will explain how it is possible and in what case you should give your preference to one or the other type.
Limestone is a type of natural rock that exists pretty much everywhere in the world. It is formed when sand, mud, and shells are deposited in lakes and oceans.
Marble, a luxury rocked loved by design industry, is formed during the mountain-building process by the recrystallization of limestone.
While both types of stone are widely used as building materials, marble is used for more high-end applications in art and home interior design. Limestone is much more often used as a raw material for many various products.
The other difference is in the porosity of these materials. Marble is a metamorphic rock, and is much harder than limestone — a very porous sedimentary rock.
In terms of colors, limestone comes in white, gray, and black. Marble has a much wider set, ranging from light and creamy white to green, blue, and dark brown.
